This was a great opportunity to collaborate again with Jen Sizemore, now at Arnold Ventures down in Houston. I was asked to produce, shoot and edit a short piece examining Seattle's innovative arrest deferment program, LEAD. Shooting took three days and post about five. I traveled to Colorado with the Starbucks comms team to help produce and shoot an uplifting video about a Starbucks regular that had a unique effect on the folks that work at his favorite store. In 2017 I was tasked to accompany Marguerite Casey Foundation senior writer Paul Nyhan on a 4-day reporting trip to Alabama to produce videos on Obamacare and criminal justice reform. This is one of 2 videos that I produced on that trip. I wrote, produced, shot and edited this piece. In 2017 I was tasked to accompany Marguerite Casey Foundation senior writer Paul Nyhan on a 4-day reporting trip to Birmingham, Alabama to produce videos on Obamacare and criminal justice reform. This is one of two videos I produced on that trip. I produced, shot and edited this piece. I worked on this with Starbucks Stories writer Linda Dahlstrom in 2018. Together we teased out the story on location and I produced, shot, and edited the video. The shoot was over a 3-day period, with post-production completed within two weeks.

About Mike
Mike Kane is a documentary, editorial, and commercial photographer and video producer based in Seattle. His path to taking pictures began with that small town, midwest restlessness that sets in during high school and never really lets go. At 19, teaching English in northern Nicaragua, his mother's old Nikon FG allowed him to see and share a world so different from home he could scarcely believe it. From that point forward cameras have pretty much led the way. After a good run as a newspaper staffer (SF Chronicle, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, San Antonio Express-News) Mike became a freelancer in 2009 and has since been honored to work with socially conscious foundations and corporate clients, investigative journalism nonprofits, and award-winning publications. His pictures have been recognized by various national photo competitions, the Nieman Foundation at Harvard, the Duke Center for Documentary Studies, and nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.
