About

I am a multi-hyphenate creator. First and foremost I am a commercial and documentary director/dp and interviewer based in San Diego, California (https://www.filmspot.tv - general reel and bio). I am also a contract creative director for the KellyCo Agency. In the commercial world I've created spots in the healthcare, education, tourism and home and garden categories. I also create a branded content documentary series of short films ("Cheyenne" https://vimeo.com/471547605 and "Anna" https://vimeo.com/298766201). I run the graduate program thesis projects as well. I've also taught at the Maine Media Workshops in Rockport, Maine. As an author, I wrote the highly acclaimed book “Roll!” published by Focal Press (https://www.amazon.com/Roll-Shooting-TV-News-Behind/dp/0240808487) and have several short scripts and a screenplay gathering dust. I also designed the “Birdcage Lantern” available from Chimera Lighting (https://chimeralighting.com/shop/?item=29224). When I'm not filming or talking about filming, I'm either out camping, traveling or working my small vineyard of Tempranillo (https://www.instagram.com/rich.underwood.501/) I gave up the motorcycle a year ago, still weighing whether that was a good idea or not.
