Italian teens are recruited online to flee their homes and become the wives of ISIS fighters in Syria. I was the producer of this story. I proposed it, gained access and went in the field to direct the crew. I also wrote the script and oversaw the edit. Six years ago, Dzilam de Bravo was a quiet fishing village on the Yucatan coast. However, international demand for a rare dish put this town on the map, attracting workers from far and wide seeking success. That delicacy is the sea cucumber. Correspondent John Holman investigates the stories behind those that compromise their livelihoods for this highly demanded delicacy. A look into why The New York Times launched an obits project dedicated to “overlooked” women, women who despite being extraordinary or even famous, did not get an obituary on ‘the newspaper of record.’ Short first-person explainer I proposed, produced and wrote for the The Fusion Feed, with creative graphics.

About Diana
For the past 15 years I have worked at the forefront of international production, leading teams and producing documentaries and series at global networks like VICE, Al Jazeera English and Fusion. Originally a culture reporter/theater critic in Italy, I came to the US on a Fulbright to focus on documentary production at UC Berkeley’s journalism school. Since then, my work has won awards and screened around the world. In the last few years I have worked between the US, Italy and Mexico, overseeing docuseries and weekly shows. After five years as a producer for AJE’s documentary department in Washington, DC, I worked as an independent in Mexico, producing short to long-form docs across the country. I went on to run a weekly show for Fusion in Miami. I also supervised a ten-part investigative documentary series for VICE in Italy, and then worked for VICE Studios US Hispanics & Latam, exec-producing episodes of the NatGeo/VICE "Explorer Investigation” and developing factual and scripted series across the region for clients like NatGeo, Netflix, A&E and Discovery. With strong editorial skills, I specialize in immersive, investigative and dynamic documentaries. I have a knack for gaining access, directing crews and crafting stories that speak to global audiences and have an impact. At heart, I’m a visual storyteller. I love developing ideas and scripts, and shepherding them through the final cut. I have an eye for talent and for strong characters who can embody and “show” a story rather than just “tell” it. I am fluent in English, Spanish, Italian and French.
