Diana Chan, born in Hong Kong, grew up in South Africa, then moved home to pursue a career in news. She has worked for CNN and Reuters and, most recently, was a video journalist for AFP in Hong Kong. Diana just completed her Masters in documentary filmmaking at the Columbia Journalism School.

This is a package I scripted, filmed, edited and voiced for AFPTV that was a curtain raiser before the 20th anniversary celebrations of Hong Kong’s handover back to China. It was one of many that I made when I was working with AFP and it shows that I’m able to edit together archival and my own footage to make a compelling news story with very little supporting visuals.

This is a news package I scripted, filmed, edited and voiced for AFPTV that profiled Nathan Law, a young pro-democracy activist who had just won a seat in parliament then, making him the younger lawmaker in Hong Kong’s history. Nathan has since been disqualified from parliament and is now actively taking part in the pro-extradition protests in the city.

This is a feature news package I pitched, scripted, filmed, edited and voiced for AFPTV that explores the Hong Kong’s natural parks and the threat they face in light of excessive property development. This was a challenging but fun shoot because I was required to hike up the mountains carrying my gear by myself, but I was able to experiment with creative ways of filming.

I was able to film North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during one of this first public appearances in Singapore, during the first Trump Kim Summit in 2018, where I was dispatched as part of the AFP to cover the event. Stills from this video made it to AFP's topshot.
