My name is Sam Olukoya. I was born on September 24, 1960. I am a journalist based in Lagos, Nigeria. I was an associate editor of Newswatch, Nigeria’s oldest news magazine. Since leaving the magazine in 1999, I have widely reported for several international prints and broadcast media. These include the BBC, Radio Deutsche Welle, Radio France International, Radio Netherlands, Free Speech Radio News in the United States, Inter Press Service in Italy and Welt-Sichten in Germany. I have also been involved in a number of documentaries. I am co-producer of the Naked Option. The film which chronicles the banding together of women in Nigeria’s Niger Delta region to fight against economic, social and environmental devastation resulting from the presence of multinational oil companies in their homeland was rated by the United States based Athena Film Festival as one of the ten movies that can changed the world. I am a British Chevening scholar and have also won a Pulitzer grant.
