It is through stories that we change the world. I went into journalism to tell the stories that protect, uplift and inspire our communities. But I wanted to get more into the mix, to work on behalf of the organizations actually implementing the change. At a globally recognized cancer research center, at the best-known coffee company in the world, at one of the country’s largest philanthropic foundations – I have implemented authentic, journalistic-style storytelling that fuels this funnel from message to change. Now through my company, Matter – Storytelling For Good, I help organizations of all kinds and sizes do this on behalf of their own missions and causes. It is my way of contributing to the better world we all seek. Good Stories. Matter.

I was most recently VP of Communications at Arnold Ventures, one of the largest philanthropic foundations in the U.S. I led a team of storytellers and strategic communicators with a mission of creating understanding of some of the nation's most pressing problems, and highlighting the ways policy could change to address those issues.
I was VP and Editor-in-Chief at Starbucks Coffee Company. I built Starbucks Stories and the creative team that powered it. Our mission was to tell "Starbucks stories" that weren't necessarily about Starbucks. We focused on the humans benefitting from corporate social impact work, with a goal to inspire other people and organizations. (Its mission has evolved since.)
As VP of communications and marketing at this world-renowned cancer research center, I embedded a journalistic-style newsroom at the center of a team of communications and marketing experts. We did daily agnostic stories centering Fred Hutch experts and research. (Fred Hutch has since merged with its clinical partners, evolving its mission.)
