For three years the Rapa Nui people of Easter Island have campaigned to protect the waters around their home. Supported by the Bertarelli Foundation and Pew Charitable Trusts, their dream finally came true on the 5th of October 2015 when President Bachalet of Chile declared at the Our Ocean conference that it was her desire to support the Rapa Nui's proposal.
Illegal fishing is a significant threat to the sustainability of Indian Ocean fish populations. For years, criminal fishers have plundered those waters with little fear of detection or prosecution. But that is changing due to FISH-i Africa, a project that unites seven countries in East and Southeast Africa.
