With more experience in Non-Fiction, I have brought a few inspirational stories to the screen and shot many films for fundraising, awareness and knowledge. This is a short documentary about the Night Schools near Tilonia village, Rajasthan. In spite of the lockdown due to COVID because of community demand and pressure the Solar Night Schools have again started in Rajasthan. They are located in remote villages where there are no government day schools. Where the government buildings are available the night schools are held there at night. Poorest children from the ST/SC/OBC families come to these schools. More girls come to the schools than boys.
The Tilonia Digital Solar Night Schools strive to impart quality education through technology. It is challenging to create learning nurturing opportunities for children from marginalized scheduled caste and scheduled tribe communities. More importantly, night school teachers are trained to incorporate technology to enhance effective student learning. The objective is to increase 21st century skills in 19th Century conditions of digital awareness and literacy among both the students and teachers. The days of the blackboards, the slate and pencils are over.
Barefoot College's nutritional "Super Five", a delicious mix of wheat, peanut, sesame seed, chick peas, jaggery, is a tried-and-tested supplement to the children's limited diet. Super Five provides our kids with the nutrition they need to survive and thrive. It also combats iron deficiency in women who are the backbone of rural India.
Hatheli is an independent registered society and has managed to invest its resources in building an economic stability for the crafts persons and women. It has a reputation for working with worker management and expertise on the job, carrying the barefoot approach into the production and marketing of handicrafts. The income from its sales is reinvested into capital for the continuation of the process and also for supporting some activities on campus.
