Joseph Michael embodies a magical balance between fine artistry and forward-thinking technical knowledge. With a passion for the philosophical at his core, Michael seeks out the rare and sublime in the natural world and represents it with dynamic vision and cutting-edge technology. He has worked with revolutionary motion control techniques on Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit”, built 3D time-lapse rigs and created 360-degree cinema experiences, always pushing the boundaries of the technology available to him. Michael's work has been featured on 60 Minutes and National Geographic. His luminosity series has been shared by hundreds of thousands of people and issued as a limited edition stamp series by New Zealand post. Michael’s current project is an encompassing international installation which celebrates the profound, untouched beauty of Antarctica.

New Zealand artist Joseph Michael creates a cinematic collision of nature and architecture. In this video a 1:1 scale iceberg was projected onto the entire exterior of the Auckland War Memorial Museum (8,800 m2 surface area) using 360 degree projection mapping.

CARNIVOROUS GLOWWORMS TURN CAVES INTO STUNNING STARSCAPES
GO SPELUNKING IN some of New Zealand's limestone caves and you can leave your headlamp behind. Thousands of Arachnocampa luminosa, or New Zealand glowworms cling to the walls and ceiling, casting an eerie, soft light. These worms, endemic to New Zealand, fill natural caves and abandoned mines. Photographer Joseph Michael hiked into four of them.
