Hi there, My name is Rachel White, and I'm a hardworking journalist who aspires to make the world a more inclusive, better place through my work. I recently graduated with a master's degree from the Medill School of Journalism where I specialized in national security and social justice reporting as well as documentary filmmaking. My capstone documentary was nominated for a Chicago/Midwestern Emmy award in the long form, nonfiction category. With a lack of other options, the Cook County Jail is known as the region’s biggest mental health care provider. Thousands of people with mental illness are housed there, often because of crimes of survival related to their illness.
