About
Mauricio Gonzalez-Aranda is a documentary filmmaker based in Brooklyn, NY. In 2022, he created the Bar Talk Series, an online series with over 75k followers (@bartalkseries) that features everyday conversations between New Yorkers at different bars. His directorial debut, A Word for Human (2019), premiered at CPH:DOX and screened at the U.S. National Gallery of Arts. He has also worked as a researcher, assistant editor, and production assistant on various produc- tions by the Danish company, Final Cut for Real. These projects include Oscar-nominated documentary Flee (2021), President (2021), School Shooters (2021), and Songs of Repression (2020). He’s a well-versed director, DP, and editor. Mauricio holds a B.A. in Physics from Princeton University.

Bar Talk Series (Unscripted Show) - Co-creator
In 2022, Mauricio along with co-creator Andrew Mullen began an online docuseries called Bar Talk that now has over 75k followers online. One evening each week, we invite a new pair of friends to sit down at the bar and have a conversation like they normally would. We don’t give our guests any guidance; we’re simply seeking two people who share a strong bond, with time on their side. The goal, over the course of the show, is to create a portrait of New York City, through all its walks of life, in a casual tone. With over 50 20-minute episodes on YouTube and highlight reels on social media, this sweeping local docuseries strives to build a time-capsule of NYC in an authentic, unscripted way.

A Word For Human (2019) is a documentary directed by Mauricio Gonzalez-Aranda that paints a portrait of The Danish Royal Library, a place where the love for literature and culture is no longer bound to a book’s spine. It premiered at CPH:DOX in 2019 and was screened at the US National Gallery of Arts.
