About

Paolo Hasbun Comandari is a Salvadoran filmmaker who studied at the International Film and Television School of San Antonio de los Baños in Cuba (documentaries 2002-2003). Since then he found a way to channel his ideas and concerns in the form of cinema. In 2005 he participated in the Talent Campus of the Berlinale. From that year until 2007 he took up residence in Spain where he worked as an editor for the documentary series "Mercats" broadcasted on Valencia local television. After traveling through Europe, he decides to return and settle in El Salvador with the aim of contributing to the regional cinematography. This is how he has played various roles aligned with this objective, ranging from the political-union area in his role as vice president of ASCINE (2012-2014), producing and directing documentaries, and technical roles for film and advertising. Between 2008 and 2010 while he is a permanent employee as assistant director in an advertising film production company, he produces and directs the half-length documentary "Ecos del Bajo Lempa", official selection in “Latin American Film Festival in Biarritz", “Cultural Festival of Zacatecas" and "Centro America Film Festival" in Rome where he receives an honorable mention for the best social contribution. This documentary has also been used in the "José Matías Delgado" University in academic evaluations in the field of philosophy. Among the technical roles he has played for cinema, as location sound mixer stand out: "Pablo's Word" by Arturo Menéndez, bought by HBO and Sony Latinoamérica, and “The Offended" by Marcela Zamora, official selection at IDFA and Mar de Plata. In the camera department he was camera operator for "El Cielo Abierto" by Mexican documentary filmmaker Everardo Gonzáles and photo director of "Nada" winner of best fiction short film in Icaro Internacional Film Festival 2016. He has also provided services to international productions interested in the particular stories that the national reality contains. Among these works are producer credits for the reality show "Counting On" by the TLC channel (Discovery Network) and associate producer of the documentary "Troubled Water" by Will Parrinello and Vicente Franco. As director the films that stand out are "How to Eat Meat" and "Ecos del Bajo Lempa" two very different films that explore universal themes such as sex, love and war with crudeness and poetry in completely different styles. He is currently producing his first feature documentary as a director, entitled: "Sitti, in search of oblivion", in which he investigates the link that exists between El Salvador and Palestine through the personal search of his roots.
