Muhamadou Mughtarr Bittaye is a passionate and self-motivated Gambian-based photographer. His focus is on capturing the essence of everyday life in The Gambia. He believes dignity is a fundamental human right and strives to convey this through his photography, showcasing emotions to create lasting memories of the people around him. His style is rooted in traditional photojournalism, but he brings his unique fine-art-inspired aesthetic to create work that is not only impactful but visually engaging. He has worked on multiple projects for international and local organizations including The International Trade Centre and African Network Against Extrajudicial Killings and Enforced Disappearances (ANEKED) for their "Memory House” project, a memorialization and education center which offers a space in which the relatives of the victims of Yahya Jammeh’s regime in The Gambia can share and reflect on their stories.

The exhibition “The Duty to Remember” features photographs, testimonies from the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC), as well as objects that once belonged to victims of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings in The Gambia. It was initially to be held on the University of Geneva’s premises, but the sanitary situation forced the organizers to transform it into a completely dematerialized exhibition.
Ebou Janha, 102, is the only surviving veteran of 1 Gambia Regiment, which fought for the British against Japanese troops in then-Burma during the Second World War.
