Tensions in the ongoing protests in Hong Kong reached its peak in the middle of November 2019 after a protester was shot by a traffic policeman. Students occupied university campuses across the city and blocked key highways. After a fierce battle at the Chinese University, attention turned to the blockade at Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) where students had closed off the Cross Harbour Tunnel leading to it. This immersive 360 video takes you through five days in and around PolyU. President Rodrigo Duterte has been an office for a year after promising to crack down on drugs, crime and corruption. TIME takes a look at what makes Duterte a popular president and what he has done so far. Encroaching deserts threaten 400 million people in China already struggling with unproductive marginal agricultural land and water shortages (Global Risks Insights). One family living on the edge of the expanding Gobi desert is having to make the decision of whether to leave their ancestral home and join other climate refugees, or stick it out and change their lifestyle to fit the new environment. In Nepal, most elephants living in captivity are chained for 18-19 hours per day when they’re not working. Carol Buckley of Elephant Aid International is working with elephant owners to construct chain-free corrals. The new corrals have electric fences that allow elephants to roam their yards without the risk of escaping. But the system is not always successful. Story hunter explainer.
