During the summer, hundreds of fisherwomen line Mumbai’s Sasson Docks. These women work up to 11-hour shifts cleaning fish and earn between $1 and $7 a day. They are a part of the 15,000 third-generation Banjaras who migrated from Karnataka to Mumbai seeking better work opportunities. Many of them live in slums, which are under threat of being taken away by the builders/ corporators for redevelopment and have no security in case of medical emergencies. The present generation, many of whom are illiterate and uneducated, have realized the importance of sending their children to school and work in the hopes of creating better opportunities for their children.

Be it heavy rains or scorching sun, there is never a dull day for food vendors because people in the city love munching on street food as they move about their fast-paced lives. Many street vendors in the country work hard in the hope that they are able to educate their children to afford them a fair chance of choosing their desired profession.
