Joshua Simon has a degree in sociology from Brandeis University, and has been working in film and television for the last 5 years, with experience in lighting, sound, shooting, directing, producing and post-production -- sometimes all at once! Joshua has made videos with non-profits and foundations, including Cancer Research Institute, NY Hall of Science, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation as well as corporations including Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Dropbox. In 2012, Joshua began working primarily in the documentary space, working with The Food Network on short biographical pieces about chefs around the United States. He is currently producing his first feature-length documentary, and continues to work with non-profits and small businesses to tell their stories through video.

I spent 5 days with the kids and staff at Harlem Grown, a non-profit in Harlem, NY. The kids showed me what they planted in the community garden, how they learned about teamwork and patience. And the staff explained their mission, teaching philosophy, and why the organization is so important.

In July 2006, Tessa Venell had a car accident which left her unconscious with many broken bones, and a traumatic brain injury. I produced this short film in 2015 for the American Academy of Neurology Neuro Film Festival. It’s about the support system that helped Tessa have such a strong recovery, and the way she gives back to the community of therapists and doctors that helped her so much.
