Gelareh Kiazand is a photographer and filmmaker based in Tehran. Born in Iran and educated in London, and Toronto, since 2010 she has worked in Hollywood, Afghanistan and Tehran in photojournalism, feature films and documentary. Gelareh has been nominated for 'Best Film Photographer Award' in Iran three times and has exhibited in the 'Top 100 Photos' exhibit at the Museum of Modern Arts in Tehran. Winning also best documentary at the Tehran film festival for a behind the scenes feature. Since 2013, she has been working as a freelance videographer, producer and as a correspondent for VICE. Prior to this, her student short films toured festivals in Toronto, Montreal and the New York Independent Film Festival.

The second unit of the film had to be produced and shot in Afghanistan, which is what I managed with a small team and Jake Simkin in Kabul.

I shot only the Iran and Afghanistan parts of the feature documentary, which looks at the mis-treatment of Australia towards its asylum seekers.
