Born in Lebanon, Jocelyne Abi Gebrayel studied Photography for a year before turning into film studies and receving her Master degree in 2000. Since then she has been working as a Director of Photography on many award winning documentary films revolving around humanitarian and sociopolitical issues in the Middle East and in the North Africa region.
Four young women artists in Beirut document the momentous October 2019 uprising against corruption and inflation. The prevailing mood is one of hope and change. But a few months later, Covid-19 locks down the city, and all optimism evaporates with the massive explosion at Beirut’s port.Will the young women be able to hold into their dream of building a new Lebanon?
For 15 months, 45 adult male inmates, some completely illiterate, found themselves working together to present an adaptation of the famous stage play '12 Angry Men', here re-named '12 Angry Lebanese'. Through their new-found creative outlet, we witness the prisoners coalesce into a slick, professional ensemble. This cinematographic journey follows the family of Najati Sidki, a Palestinian brigadist who took part in the Spanish Civil War, and finds out how the Palestinian identity faces the turmoil imposed by the numerous exiles.
