Nantha Kishore is a video journalist based in Tamil Nadu who has worked with leading publications like DW, Ozy, The Caravan Magazine, The Diplomat, Newsminute, Stories Asia, Asiaville News, etc and produced short narrative documentaries and current affairs stories in the region. He documented the National Geographic Out of Eden Walk workshops in India in three major Indian cities Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkata. He has also contributed to the New York Times as a translator for a story on Auroville, an experimental township near Pondicherry and a story on the 2019 Sri Lanka Easter bombings. Apart from video stories, he is also a photographer and a long-form narrative nonfiction writer.

Nantha was great to work with. Had a really strong attitude and good sense of story. His shooting was also terrific. We also had him edit the piece which did take a bit of time with several revision rounds, however he was amenable to our needs and came out with a great piece.

Dr K Padmarajan is little different from the rest of candidates running for the General Elections in India. He has earned notorious fame by losing 168 elections till now. He even holds a Limca book of record for being 'the most unsuccessful candidate in elections in the world'. In India, inter-caste marriages can get you killed. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB in India), 3560 cases were reported with motive as “Honour Killing.” The organisations working on the ground to prevent caste-based atrocities say that the number is grossly inaccurate and could be much higher. They estimate that more than 190 honour killing incidents have taken place since 2014 in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu alone. In 2016, when Bharathi, who runs one such organization called ‘Aran’, heard about the Shankar-Kausalya honour killing incident that took place in the Udumalpet district of Tamil Nadu, India, he spurned into action. Deeply affected by the horrifying incident, he started making preparations for a moblie based application to help inter-caste couples get married and seek the protection of the law. Thus ‘Kadhal Aran’ app, which means ‘Save Love’ in Tamil, was born. StoriesAsia member Journalist, Nantha Kishore, traveled to the Pollachi district in Tamil Nadu recently to talk to Bharathi. He also spent time with two couples who used the app to escape from getting honour killed.

Everyone walk past Mohammad Ghalib, the last 'katib' (meaning calligrapher in Urdu) in the streets of old Delhi. There was a time when katibs were part of Royal courts but now, the last of their lineage practices his art in a makeshift shop adjacent to the street. Football has a different meaning in this small village of Sisola in northern India. While the world was watching FIFA matches recently, people here were stitching footballs, just as they do every day. Football is not a sport in this village in Uttar Pradesh state, but a means to make a living. People here have been stitching footballs for ages, despite receiving a meagre amount for their labour from distributors who seek to maximise their profits. The workforce includes kids, mostly girls, which means their parents don’t send them to school. And families have to take up a high volume of work to barely survive, a burden which is equally shared by the children. Having visited and spoken to families in this village, we, too, couldn’t help seeing football as more than just a fun sport as we watched the World Cup 2018.
