People in Myanmar protesting the military’s seizure of power, which has sparked widespread violence in the country, have a new tool - coup-themed tattoos.
Doctors and medical staff at multiple hospitals across Myanmar donned red ribbons and said they were walking away from all non-emergency work to protest against the coup. Calls for a civil disobedience campaign in Myanmar are gathering pace as the United States formally declared the military's takeover a coup and vowed further penalties for the generals behind it.
Protesters in Myanmar have taken to stringing up traditional women's skirts, called Longyis, on clotheslines across streets as a way to protect themselves from security forces. According to old Myanmar traditions, walking beneath clothes that cover women’s private parts is considered bad luck.
