Pius Utomi Ekpei, is a renowned Nigerian photojournalist and writer. He has worked in various capacity for different organisations as publicist, photo consultant and photojournalist for the local and international press, including Reuters news agency, Agence France press (AFP), and till late September, 2023 as photojournalist, photo coordinator for Nigeria, Ghana, Togo and Benin for 25 years. He has covered wide range of events, such as unrests in West Africa, insurgency, Liberia War, entertainment, fashion, various sport events, including 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Athletics Championships, Afcon hosted in various African countries. An author and former adjunct lecturer in photojournalism at the Pan Atlantic University in Lagos, he studied journalism, photojournalism at the University of Missouri School of Journalism, USA, and University of Lagos, where he obtained B.A in English, M.A in English Literature, and M.A in Public and International Affairs.
Lagos traffic gridlock popularly called "go-slow" in pidgin English runs from morning through the night making it almost impossible to keep to deadlines and appointments. As a way to beat the city's famous traffic jams, commuters often preferred taxi motorcycles, popularly called Okada, which had long been an alternative to the grlidock on the snarled-up roads of Nigeria's megacity of Lagos.
