Arnar Thorisson was born in Iceland in 1968. His interest for photography was intrigued early on, first primarily in still-photography; in which he finished a diploma from New York Institute of Photography in 1989. He then continued his studies, but now focusing on cinematography, graduating from Columbia College, LA in 1992, having earned his first award as a cinematographer for a PSA commercial contest, initiated by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He then returned to his roots in still-photography for a second major in arts, at the California Institute of the Arts, LA. After living and studying in USA, Arnar moved back to his homeland, Iceland and started his career as a Cinematographer. His work has taken him on international journeys for both documentaries and fiction films, at times living in the US and France. His list of work includes features, internationally acclaimed TV Series, Documentaries and Short fiction-films. He has been nominated for best cinematography number of times in Iceland, US and Latvia, winnig best cinematography in Rhode Island and New York film festivals. From a visit, for Unicef, to a community of children goldminers in Burkina Faso, documenting the brutal conditions of workers there. And finding a 14 year old boy, at 35meters depth, that has worked there almost every day since 11 years old.
