Dominick is an award-winning Nuyorican filmmaker and educator living in the Bronx. His work focuses on uplifting the voices of vulnerable communities and fostering generational healing. Through storytelling, he builds community and challenges traditional notions about race, class and gender. His latest film, Aguante, examines some of Puerto Rico’s resistance against gender-based violence.
Maria Aponte brings back her one woman show Lagrimas De Mis Madres a play centering the female generational perspective of migrating to the United States from Puerto Rico. The play displays the importance of healing through trauma and the power of forgiveness.
Aguante is a documentary about the Puerto Rican battle against gender-based violence. It is a story about the impact that machismo culture and a complex history of colonialism in Puerto Rico has had on generations of women. Economic, political, and natural crises of the recent past highlight women’s vulnerability to violence. Aguante shows that while gender-based violence is seen in intimate partner relationships it is enabled by social conditions. But Aguante also tells another story: the island of Puerto Rico has a long history of women's liberation movements. And feminist movements have persisted in the past and today to change legislation and topple governments as they combat gender-based violence but also the central issues of the island’s governance.
The Journey is about taking a look at Professor Gabriela Torres childhood being raised in Guatemala during the time of the Guatemalan Civil War (1960 – 1996). Gabriela’s parents were civil rights lawyers trying to protect Guatemalan citizens rights to assembly and protest. So during Gabriela’s childhood, she faced many obstacles due to her parents work and the climate of Guatemala.

"Paint the Eyes First" is the story of an addict named James who at 19 is going to spend his first winter homeless. Wanting to keep his current state of living a secret from the loving Mr. and Mrs. Kindell he lies about having a home and a family. As the winter days grow colder James' sleepless nights in the woods become unbearable as he tries to battle addiction. When his jacket is stolen by his drug dealer he desperately looks for a place to stay and comes upon a music conservatory. On the brink of hypothermia James opens the door and crashes into Alex, a 22 year old janitor on his first day of the job. He eventually meets Alex's wife, Sam, a painter. To Alex's opposition Sam invites James to stay with them in the conservatory at night as long as James overcomes his addiction and helps clean the conservatory.
