Daniel Patrick Holmes is an award-winning British filmmaker based in Southern Mexico. He graduated with an MA (Hons) in International Journalism before moving to Beijing in 2013 where he produced and directed his first films. Longform, narrative storytelling sits at the heart of Daniel’s work, which focuses on underrepresented issues surrounding migration, forced relocation, and minority communities. Daniel’s films have been shown internationally, for broadcast and web. He co-founded the production company Omma Films, which produces factual films for TV, cinema, and digital platforms around the world. Softball Warriors
"Las Amazonas," a softball team of Indigenous Mayan women are starting a revolution. Maria Enedina Canul Poot and her teammates play barefoot, and in traditional clothing. In their conservative community of Yaxunah, gender inequality is a constant presence, and playing softball is an act of rebellion. However, many men who were once critical of the players now show up to support the team. Las Amazonas are farmers, embroiderers, shepherds, and cooks—taking aim at Mexico’s macho culture and smashing stereotypes with every swing of the bat.

Contemporary Shanghai is celebrated for its futuristic skyline, but nestled between shiny towers, you’ll find one of the world’s richest collections of Art Deco buildings. The architectural style, which had its heyday in the 1930s, epitomized luxury and employed geometric forms, linear shapes and narrow windows. Not to be missed are the Grand Theatre and the Paramount, once bastions of Shanghai glitz and glam.
