A seasoned journalist with an excellent work history of reporting, editing and translating. I take pride in seeing a project to completion. Other countries I have been invited to on work-related visits are China, Singapore, Malaysia and India. CORE QUALIFICATIONS • Wide experience in reporting on human rights and politics; • Experience in working in print as well as electronic media; • Ability to work in and translate from Tamil and Sinhala; • Experience in launching and operating news websites; • High interpersonal and communication skills. EXPERIENCE The Sunday Leader Editor (2016-present) I manage the entire operations of the editorial section of the publication, which includes assigning story ideas to journalists to work on for both news and feature articles, editing content and overseeing other operations related to the news paper. Asia Pacific Daily Correspondent (2017) As a local correspondent my main responsibility is to provide news related to both Sri Lanka and South Asia. The Sunday Leader Deputy Editor (2012 -2016) I worked under the editor in chief to manage the newspaper, especially the News Division, sitting-in, in the absence of the editor. Colombo Gazette Editor (2012 to present) Launched by me as a news, lifestyle and entertainment website, I manage the technical aspects of the website, find content and promote it. Xinhua News Agency Freelance Correspondent (2012 to present) As one of the local correspondents my responsibility is to find news which would be of international interest. News Now website Editor (2011) Launched by a private media institution with me as their first editor, my responsibilities included finding news and promoting the new website. (www.newsnow.lk) Reporters Without Borders Colombo correspondent (2009-2010) I was tasked with keeping RWB informed about any news relating to Sri Lanka, with special focus on issues relating to curb media freedom or attacks on reporters. Daily Mirror online Editor (2009-2010) With the web edition of the news paper under my purview, it was my responsibility to introduce various elements to the website and taking it to the next level as a breaking news service. Deputy Editor Daily Mirror (2008-2010) It was my task to oversee the entire news paper and report to the editor-in-chief. Daily Mirror newspaper News Editor (2006) I was responsible for assigning news for the news desk to gather and follow up on and editing content prior to publication. The Sunday Leader Senior journalist at newspaper (2004-2005) Specializing in the reporting of political stories in the peak of the war in Sri Lanka, I often went on field coverage of key incidents. EFM Radio News Presenter / News Manager at (2001-2004) I was responsible for collecting, editing and presenting news. While heading the news division, I had to authorize news for presentation by other news presenters and edit content when necessary.
