I'm an Emmy-winning documentary filmmaker based in San Francisco, California. I have a passion for telling the untold stories, and for telling them in a way that lets the viewer into the lives of others in an intimate and view-altering way. My feature-length documentary "Waking Up to Wildfires" was nominated for an Emmy in 2020, and my short doc, A Brush With the Tenderloin, won an Emmy award in June 2013. I also create videos for editorial, non-profit, and corporate clients, favoring those clients who want 'story' to be the backbone of their video. Before embracing documentary film about seven years ago, I was a print journalist and investigative reporter. I worked on newspaper in my native Iowa and in California, and also worked as a foreign correspondent in Mexico City, Mexico for five years.
This is a client testimonial/case study video completed for Getty Images about a new product, UltraPacks. I worked with the Getty and the customer in pre-production, directed crew of 5 on production day, and edited the final piece. I also captured the screenshots with screen capture software. An informational video for popular parenting website, BabyCenter.com (owned by Johnson & Johnson). I've produced a couple of dozen videos for BabyCenter. On this video, I produced, shot one of two video cameras, directed and edited.

This is my Emmy-winning short documentary film, completed in 2013. I produced it independently and it went on to play at festivals (it premiered at the Mill Valley Film Festival) and then aired on the local PBS affiliate (KQED) "Truly California" program. I shot and edited the piece.

A mini-doc about VanLife from the less-stylish POV of people forced into the life for financial reasons. In this video, shot in 2017, I profile Bob Wells, the founder of the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous, who starred in the Oscar-winning Nomadland this year. Wells explains how he went into his VanLife kicking and screaming, but came out a believer.
