About Wambui

Wambui Gathee is a Kenyan director, producer, film curator and freelance photographer. Popularly known for her recent short film, Love Zawadi that has won three awards that gave her the title, award-winning director. She has also worked on other films including Blurred that has received international recognition. Wambui is also involved in impact work through the Sema Stori campaign funded by Comic Relief as the Regional Impact Producer for ten short documentary films. She is currently the Screenings Manager at Docubox EADFF. She is also a Foundry Photo Workshop, Southern Africa Locarno Industry Academy (SALIA) and Some Fine Day Pix alumni. Wambui is a firm believer in artistic visual storytelling that is well represented in her filmography as well as photography.

  • The Community Forward Film Series: Unlearning the Tradition

    • Field Producer

    Grace endured female genital mutilation (FGM) as a girl, and the painful experience haunted her. Years later, as an accomplished scholar, she founded Hope Foundation for African Women to end the life-threatening tradition in Kenya, starting from within the community where it happened to her. Grace’s work is inspired by her belief that FGM survivors and perpetrators, sometimes one and the same, hold the key to ending FGM. Learn more about her vision for gender equality in Kenya and beyond.
