About Sam W.

Sam Wolson, is an immersive film director and photographer with editorial partners including National Geographic and The New York Times. He grew up on a flower farm in the suburbs of Detroit Michigan and is currently based out of Berlin, Germany. In 2017 he co-directed the VR film We Who Remain, which was the first character-driven VR film shot in an active war zone -- in the Nuba mountains of Sudan. It premiered at SXSW, won best VR film at SIFF and was a co-production between The New York Times, AJ+, and ARTE. Wolson also received a Google Jump Start camera grant in 2017 to work on a long-term project exploring the aftermath of the nuclear disaster in Fukushima Japan. Over the course of 2017 Wolson also shot several projects for the New York Times Daily 360 project. In 2018 he worked on a four part VR series for National Geographic on the Okavango Delta called the Okavango Experience which documented a group of conservationist on an expedition canoeing across the Okavango Delta in Botswana. In 2019 he was part of teams that received a National Geographic Society grant entitled Documenting Human Migrations and a Journalism 360 Night Foundation grant for immersive journalism exploring the use of field deployable volumetric video. In 2020 his documentary project about Fukushima premiered at Sundance.

Mr. Kurgat is a young Kenyan journalist and communications professional. He has worked as a TV producer,Video journalist and video editor for 5 years with different radio and television media houses. He started his career at the Eldoret based Sayare Radio and TV Network as a video journalist and editor where he used to gather news stories, scripting and also help in video editing. Due to his exemplary work, he was promoted to head Television news production department where he enabled production of quality news bulletin and introduction of other TV programs. A good journalist endeavors to bring the qualities of creativity, technological understanding in the daily tasks of collaborating to bring stories to life on the screen and these are characteristics of Mr. Kurgat. He handles a number of duties ranging from scripting, video shooting and editing for Television. He is conversant with Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro for video-editing and Cool Edit/Adobe audition for audio editing. He trained and graduated with Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication from Nairobi Aviation College. He would like hunt for Environmental,Health, Politics and Human Rights stories.

I addition to that i also own basic lighting kit and audio kit which consists of a field audio mixer, boom and wireless lapel microphones. Sometimes i also do short features on upcoming African entrepreneurs who are making a positive impact in their society. Of late, i have also been interested in people who are coming up with innovations in the science and technology sector. I possess a Diploma in Mass Communication from the Multi-Media University College of Kenya and over ten years’ experience as a TV Producer. I currently work at Africa Films Network as a Senior Producer and in charge of all content generated by the company. The company is based in Nairobi, Kenya and we concentrate on positive documentaries and feature stories from the African continent. Having produced content from the continent for the last 10 years, I'm well versed in matters concerning Africa. I have previously worked at K24 TV as the Head of the English News Department, at Switch TV as a News Editor and at the Standard Group Limited as a TV Producer where I produced and scripted for a number of shows. Among them is The Entrepreneur show, a weekly show that told inspiring stories on Kenyan entrepreneurs. I was also part of the team that conceptualized and produced Ultimate Challenge the Nomads Edition. A 13 episode programme, we traveled to Marsabit County where we filmed 12 contestants living like nomads. Previously, I worked in the newsroom as a TV Producer where I produced a daily one hour sports show and a business show as well. My past experience includes working as a Senior Producer at Africa24 media. My main job entailed field producing and scripting of African documentaries and feature stories.
