Adrian Alvarez Cueto (b. 1992 in Madrid) is a full-time Visual Storyteller and Cinematographer based in Madrid, Spain. He graduated in Journalism at Complutense University of Madrid in 2015. Then he traveled to United Kingdom to complete the MA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at the University of the Arts London. In 2022 he was awarded with the Dawn Journalism Award for his documentary work on depopulation and rural resilience in northern Spain. His work focuses on issues involving social justice and identity, as well as the way people interact with their environment. Adrian understands visual storytelling as a means to build bridges between realities, to create common spaces where civic and public conversation can lead to new levels of mutual understanding between different collectives of our society. His work has been published in some of the most influential international media outlets, such as The Washington Post, GEO Magazine and El País; and he has also produced work for brands such as Leica Camera AG, LG Electronics and Warner Music. He currently conducts his commercial and documentary work through NORTHWEST© Studio, his own production company based in the Madrid sierras.

Photo essay about the last stage of the refugee British route. It covers the attempt of refugees to cross the last border, between France and United Kingdom. The essay was divided into three chapters, each one focused on one part of the trip: The living conditions in the refugee camp of Calais; the attempts to cross the border at night; and the new home of refugees once they got to cross to United Kingdom. The project was shortlisted for the PhotOn Festival Award 2016 and the Prix ANI 2017; and it got an honorable mention of the Fujifilm Award 2016. The project was also exhibited in galleries of London (United Kingdom) and Perpignan (France). El País — February 22, 2017.

Navalquejigo is a small town in the north of Madrid, with a population of between twenty and thirty people, rebuilt on the ruins of an ancient medieval village. The town was founded in the 11th century by groups of villagers from the city of Segovia, located on the plains of the ancient Realm of Castile, however the first settlements in the region date from the 3rd century b.C. Nowadays, it is an occupied land.
