Elecciones 2019
Thelma Cabrera Pérez, of Mayan-mam origin, created a great precedent in the history of our country, being the first indigenous woman to run for the president of the Republic of Guatemala in the last elections. It was a moment that was a product of 27 years of organized struggle for inclusion and justice. Thelma is a clear example of hard work and simplicity; after casting her vote, accompanied by her family, she returned home to her domestic chores, and share with her family and members of this community. Beyond the ideological differences, personally, this represents an important advancement for women and indigenous society, which has been so repressed and hurt in our country. Todo santos 2019
An annual festival is celebrated on October 31-November 2, and is centered on All Saints' Day on November 1 ("Todos Santos" translates to "all saints" in English).
