Duncan Sullivan is a NYC based documentary-style director/DP who specializes in documentary storytelling. He has captured the stories of professional athletes, indigenous activists, small business owners, blue collar workers, and world-renowned chefs. His work has been featured in Conde Nast Traveler, VICE, and GQ and he has shot and directed content for clients such as Red Bull, American Express, REI, John Hancock, Hennessy, and more. His films have been recognized nationally and internationally in places like Telluride Mountainfilm Festival, Banff Mountain Film Festival, Kendall Mountain Film Festival, the Webby’s. In 2018, he was featured SHOOT Magazine’s New Director Showcase, which identifies up-and-coming directors whose work show’s promise to make major positive contributions to advertising and / or entertainment in its traditional and emerging forms.

I developed this story and directed this spot for American Express working in-house at the McGarryBowen agency. The series was shot by award winning cinematographer Clair Popkin. This series was part of American Express' small business advertising series in early 2020.
I was the Director of Photography on this shoot for John Hancock + The Players' Tribune featuring NFL running back Phillip Lindsay.
I developed this story, pitched, shot and directed this film for REI. Brothers of Climbing has played in festivals around the world including Banff Mountain Film Festival, Telluride Mountain Film Festival, and Seoul Adventure Film Festival and many more. It received a Vimeo Staff pick and was nominated for a Webby Award in 2018.
