Alessio Ortu was born in Italy in 1980. Since 2001 he worked and lived in London, Los Angeles, New York, Rome and São Paulo where he is based since 2011. Between 2008 and 2015 he worked for the Italian production company Hirafilm, producing two movies, both by director Gianclaudio Cappai: the medium-length "I know there's a man", presented at the 2009 Venice Film Festival and over 40 festivals and special events worldwide, and the feature "Leaving No Trace", that premiered at the 2016 Bari International Film Festival. In 2012 he produced a documentary that portrays his own field work photographing crack addicts downtown São Paulo, that participated to several important film festival in South America. In 2015 he founded the independent production company Demiurgos Film, based in Los Angeles and São Paulo, through which he is developing two feature films and one documentary. He also works as a photographer, and as a camera operator for documentaries, tv series and advertising.
The documentarist Humberto Bassanelli follows the photographer Alessio Ortu through the labyrinths of São Paulo’s “Crackland”, revealing his search to discern behind the appearances, not only the ghosts that devour the crack users, but also the remains of a humanity in a state of emergency. The photographer descends to hell, leading the documentarist with him, an allusion to Dante’s Inferno.
Investigative documentary that follows several apprehensions of hundreds of wild animals that are victims of illegal trafficking, and tries to offer a wide perspective of the problem incorporating interviews not only with lawyers and policemen, but also with those responsible for the illegal trade.
