My name is Tom Wang and I come from central China. I have always been a film and music lover. After graduating from college, I became a videographer with a passion for telling human-interest stories. From 2016 to 2023, I worked as a video journalist for the South China Morning Post (SCMP) in Beijing. During my time there, I produced news videos and short documentaries on various topics, focusing on the lives of ordinary people in China. As the only videographer in the Beijing bureau, I handled everything from research and pitching to shooting, scriptwriting and editing. My short documentary series about China's Ice Boy touched hearts around the world. The series also won an award for Excellence in Video Reporting from the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA). Additionally, my short documentary about China's missing children was nominated for the 2022 Beverly Hills Film Festival. In the summer of 2023, I left the SCMP and became a freelance filmmaker.
My short documentary 32 Years Lost was nominated for the 2022 Beverly Hills Film Festival. The film tells the story of Li Jingzhi, who spent over 30 years searching for her son, who was kidnapped as a toddler in Shaanxi province, central China.
This short documentary explores the human toll of China's massive water transfer project.

I have visited the family four times until 2024, and I have produced four short documentaries about their living situation. These films have gained a lot of attention, and many viewers have written to us wishing to help the families. I filmed, wrote and edited all the four short documentaries.
