Currently, I’m a freelance photo editor at CNN Digital, although “freelance” is a bit of a misnomer since I work nearly full-time. Since June 2019, I work with a team of photo editors to license the best photography on the wires for nearly all stories on CNN.com. By choosing engaging photographs for our homepage and story card images, we help stories be seen by millions. We also create news-driven photo galleries for ongoing and breaking news events, as well as source imagery for other CNN franchises, such as CNN Travel, Business, Style and more. Getty Images is one of our main sources for finding relative, newsworthy images to pair with our stories. Through this job, I’ve become familiar with many Getty Images staff photographers’ work and the Getty Images interface that clients use to download photos. I am also a regular freelance photographer at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Athens Banner-Herald in Athens, Georgia. I’ve covered a variety of assignments, including high school and college sports, political events and rallies, K-12 schools and intimate profiles on individuals and their communities. Most recently I’ve covered important stories related to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 presidential election and Georgia senate races, and protests following the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Rayshard Brooks and Breonna Taylor.
