Despite numerous arrests, detentions and brutality of the police forces, Belarusian journalists continue to report on protests and actions by the authorities, which are aimed at the society calling for a new presidential election and the leadership change. They continue their work thanks for the solidarity among themselves and the society. What are the working conditions for journalists? What are they afraid of? How do they deal with censorship and internet shutdowns or disruptions? What does the citizens' support look like? These are just some of the questions we answer. ⚫️ The presidential election in Belarus, which took place on August 9, 2020, is a turning point for Belarusian civil society. Since the second half of May, rallies of support for opposition candidates have taken place in the country. The rigged results of the elections and the police aggression that took place between August 9–11 convinced the Belarusians to firmly state: "it's enough". The protests have been going on for the fourth month now. ⚫️ This movie is the first episode of the "Canaries" mini-series. We show the work of independent journalists and the initiatives they create in various countries around the world.
