About Laura O.

LAURA OTÁLORA, (Bogotá, Colombia 1989) is an award-winning visual anthropologist and documentary filmmaker. From an early age she wanted to merge social and cultural studies with the visual arts, so she decided to study Anthropology with an emphasis in Art History and Theory at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogota. After finishing her degree she traveled to Spain to do a Masters in Visual Anthropology at the University of Barcelona. Later he decided to expand his knowledge in the audiovisual area, starting another Master's Degree in Documentary Film at the Barcelona Film School (ECIB). Since then she has worked in the realization of other documentaries in areas such as methodological research, script, production, DOP and post-production. For three years he coordinated the production company CAD ProducUons, where he developed several projects for international organizations such as the UN and the World Bank, covering topics such as Climate Change, Sustainable Development and Food Security in several countries in Africa, America, Europe and Asia. Among these projects, he directed the documentary interacUvo Kijanal, about the food sovereignty of the indigenous peoples of Chiapas and Yucatan in Mexico. He also worked on the documentary series REDD+ in Africa, for the World Bank, on climate change mitigation in several African countries. In parallel she parUcipated as co-founder of the Cook n Roots project, dedicated to the invesUgation of the roots of gastronomy, through Visual Anthropology, filming diverse cultural ways of understanding gastronomy, developing a broad knowledge of the gastronomic cultures of several countries. In 2019 she directed her first feature film Chef's Diaries Scotland, a documentary where the Roca brothers from the presUgious restaurant Celler de Can Roca, invesUgate about traditional products and cuisines from Spain and Scotland. It won the award for best documentary at the Girona International Film FesUval and was selected for various festivals such as the Malaga FesUval, Sea`le InternaUonal Film FesUval and the Edinburgh InternaUonal Film FesUval among many others. It is also available on platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Filmin and Mubi. Since 2019 she returned to Bogota where she works in directing and directing series and documentaries around Colombia. In 2021 the series Dis;l Your World premiered on Amazon Prime Video, in which he did the script and direction of two chapters, this same year he also directed the documentary series Vivas, which will premiere in 2022 on several Colombian TV channels. She is currently directing two feature documentaries: Impermanentes and Capitán. She is also the content director of the workshop Apichatpong Weerasethakul Lab: Filming in the Amazon and is a professor of Documentary Film at the National Film School (ENACC).

Daniel is also an active member of the Frontline Freelance Register (FFR). Some of his top stories include "The 2016 earthquake that shook the coast of Ecuador", "The eruption of the Tungurahua volcano" that began in 2000, and "The attempted coup that unruly police officers caused in Ecuador in 2010". He is able to react quickly and has the necessary technical equipment, including satellite devices, drones, teleprompters and safety gear. Daniel is ready to cover breaking news and reports across the continent.

I am a filmmaker from Colombia. I started my career studying media production in Bogota and photography in Spain. I have worked as a freelancer in both countries and worked on cruise ships for a few years. Traveling all over the world and meeting people from a lot of different countries and cultures has triggered in me a passion for traveling, and a hunger for that broad, global knowledge and empathy that is so needed in todays society. My goal as a filmmaker is not just to communicate a message but more to make people feel, the thinking and doing part comes later.

She is currently editing a behind-the-scenes video for an Ecuadorean documentary called "Who Killed My Father?" Gachet is a member of Women Photograph and the instagram community of @everydaylatinamerica. She based in Quito, Ecuador.

I have experience producing documentary films, writing feature articles, and packaging radio & TV pieces. I'm an American based in Bogotá, Colombia, with experience working in English, Spanish and French. In 2015, following dreams of being a full-time storyteller, I moved to India to co-direct a documentary about an orphanage outside the city of Hyderabad. Most recently, I served as the managing editor at Innovations | Stories, an online publication sharing the stories of social innovators all over the Global South. While at Innovations | Stories I designed and spearheaded a multimedia editorial strategy which allowed for more diverse content (a heavier focus on photo and video stories). As managing editor I supported video and photo freelance contributors from all over the world and designed storytelling trainings for social innovators to tell their own stories. I'm originally from Berkeley, California, USA and I earned my B.S. from the University of California, Davis in Community and Regional Development with a minor in Art Studio (focusing on video and photography). From 2010-2015 I directed a global education program called One World Youth Project (OWYP), based in Washington, DC. At OWYP I designed middle school (age 10-14) curriculum and trained university students to teach it around the world in their own communities. The program taught the children cross-cultural communication by empowering them to create and send video, photo, and written messages to their partner classroom abroad - all facilitated by trained university student volunteers. While serving as program director at OWYP I had the privilege of traveling around the world visiting schools and delivering trainings at universities. My work in education and the opportunity to see so much of the world made me realize I wanted to tell stories. Storytelling is the best form of education anyway.

About Dominique P.

Dominique is an ecuadorian cinematographer and holds a BFA degree in Film from the University of Arts of Ecuador. In 2016 she started working on fiction projects and documentaries as cinematographer. Long-legged Nuria (Honorable Jury Mention 8th Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival), Rosita (Winning Best Short documentary at 9th Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival), Martha con 升 (Jury Honor Mention at La Orquídea International Film Festival) and other short films that have been screened on International Film Festivals around the world as the Vancouver International Film Festival or film markets as the Cannes Shortfilm Corner. Her cinematography builds a depth work to create a visual aesthetic that is always trying to achieve different visual sensations trough light and textures. Her first feature film as cinematographer (Reyes, a story about Latin King gang in Ecuador) is now on post-production.  When she was younger she worked as camera assistant with one of the biggest film equipment rental house in Ecuador (WYLGAR). That experience gave her the opportunity to work in some many projects for ecuadorian production companies and internacional projects. Her process as camera assistant also includes ecuadorian features films like Vacío (Paul Venegas, 2019) and La Piel Pulpo (Ana Cristina Barragan, 2019). Dominique is obsessed with color science, that's why 4 years ago she started to make color grading in Davinci Resolve and learning more about color science to produce her own Luts and film textures. When she is not working she sits to see the sky and sunsets.

About Juan Z.

Juan Carlos Zapata León, born in Cartagena, Colombia in 1984. He studied Film and Photography at the Unitec University Corporation in Bogota. He entered the world of journalism when he joined Publicaciones Semana (a colombian media company) in 2011, obtaining the position of videographer, which he held until 2014. In June of that year, he traveled to France and lived in that country for the next 10 months, venturing as an event photographer for some concerts and plays. When he returns to Bogotá, he begins to work with the correspondents of the Spanish newspaper El País, making videos for the newspaper's website. Thanks to this work, he travels to different regions of Colombia making audiovisual specials, most related to the peace process and the subsequent signing of the end of the armed conflict. In September 2017, he began working with the French television channel France 24 in Spanish, after opening its headquarters for the Ibero-American public in the Colombian capital. He currently works there making audiovisual pieces of various kinds, in addition to developing independent projects for different companies and NGOs. Since March of this year, when the pandemic caused by covid-19 began, he also linked himself with the French news agency AFP, with whom he has worked reporting all kinds of stories during the quarantine.

Audiovisual producer, director and editor from Ecuador. Filmmaker by profession, master's degree in Media Studies from The New School, NY. 10 years of experience recording and taking photos. I have directed and produced various videos for the internet and big screens. During the first 5 years of my experience I dedicated myself to recording music videos. Then I dedicated myself more to the production of political and web content. I did a master's degree from 2018 to 2020 in NY. Now I also work with Touche Films, a major production company in the country. Last year I directed a food reality show called "Ahora te toca a ti" and now I am editing the Behind the Scenes (material that I also recorded) for the film Misfit. My undergraduate thesis project was a documentary that is uploaded on my YouTube channel. For many years I did a lot with a small equipment . I think the important thing is the image and the story, not the fancy equipment.But, now I have my own good equipment. I care a lot about image and story, I feel confortable interviewing people .
