Sarah Batista is an award – winning journalist, speaker, entrepreneur and filmmaker. Before launching Stories to Inspire, Sarah spent a decade as a reporter and anchor in local television news. In 2013, she left WBTV news in Charlotte after seven years to pursue her dream of documentary filmmaking. As an investigative reporter, Sarah covered a wide range of issues and draws upon that experience in her storytelling. Her four part "Beyond the Border" series filmed in Mexico won her the Large Market Feature Award from the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies with a minor in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She also contributes reports to the weekly news magazine show ‘Carolina Impact’ on WTVI PBS Charlotte. Pilar Timpane is a filmmaker and producer based in Durham, NC. Her work has focused on women's stories, immigration narratives, and religious communities with the aim of using storytelling for social change. She holds a BA from Rutgers University and a Masters in Theological Studies from Duke University Divinity School. She co-directed and produced SANTUARIO (2019, PBS/ReelSouth & AlJazeera). SANTUARIO was the winner of the Best Documentary Short Jury Prize at New Orleans Film Festival 2018 as well as the Crested Butte ActNow Award and the IF/Then Shorts American South Pitch. She is an alumna of the New Orleans Film Society Southern Producers Lab, Indie Grits Real Fiction Lab, and Women in Film/Stella Artois Finishing Fund. She was named a 2021 Ella Fountain Pratt Emerging Artist by the Durham Arts Council. Pilar is a 2022 ITVS/NEH Humanities Documentary Development Fellow and a Logan Nonfiction Program Fellow, working on her first feature film as director, about the changing role of women in the Catholic Church.

With over a decade of experience telling impactful stories about the African American experience, John is dedicated to creating films that educate and enlighten audiences. Originally from Charleston, Travis was inspired at a young age by the storytelling traditions of his community. After studying filmmaking in college, he launched his career making poignant documentaries and narratives grounded in the history and culture of the South. Travis's films confront racial injustice while also celebrating the richness of African American life, music, and spirituality. His body of work has been recognized at film festivals nationwide, including Sundance and Tribeca. He received the Outstanding Directing award for his 2015 feature film "America Street." When he's not on set, Travis enjoys mentoring up-and-coming Black filmmakers in his community. He also speaks regularly on panels about increasing diversity in the film industry. Driven by his passion for cinema and social change, Travis plans to continue enlightening mainstream audiences with untold stories of the African American experience.

After earning degrees in Media Communications and Spanish at North Carolina State University in 2004, I began my career in video production working as an editor and camera operator on a cooking show in Raleigh, NC.In 2005, I moved to Charleston, SC where I began working as an editor and producer for Litton Entertainment (now known as Hearst Media). Over the course of several years, I worked on a variety of nationally televised docu-reality TV series, including Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan: Family Edition, Calling Dr. Pol, The Brady Barr Experience, The Great Doctor Scott, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Hidden Heroes, Exploration with Richard Weise, Animal Exploration with Jarod Miller, and Hometeam. In 2012, we co-created, co-produced, directed, filmed and edited a docu-reality TV series called “Give Me Shelter,” featuring the Charleston-based animal shelter Pet Helpers. In 2019, a promo video we created for Pet Helpers was voted by locals as Best Locally Produced Video in Charleston City Paper. I am a storyteller. As a child I was drawn to cartoons and comics. As I matured, so did my interests. Through high school I poured my passion into illustration and writing.
