The first of a 3-part series surveying the achievements of New Orleans' education system in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Watch the full series, and read more about the educators, students and political leaders at the center of the New Orleans story, at http://bit.ly/NOLASchools. SHOW MORE Two hundred years after Abraham Lincoln was born, I asked the crew of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln to recite the 16th president's most famous speech. From the lowest sailors who work below decks to the captain and admiral on the bridge, the crew read aloud the stirring words with vigor and heartfelt meaning. More than 100,000 Syrians have been killed during the country’s ongoing civil war. Losing limbs in the conflict is also common. To help amputees, Syrians with little medical training have learned to make prosthetic limbs in a medical center on the Turkish side of the Syrian border. I met with the owner of a technology company who wanted to create a video demonstrating the value of his product and brainstormed ways to present this information in an engaging way suited to his audience of car dealership managers. I researched the technology, conducted interviews, hired and supervised videographer and editor, logged, wrote the script, chose the shots, and produced final video. New local food companies are eating away the market share of major manufacturers because of preferences for natural ingredients. I pitched this story and completed all elements of it. I researched, set up shoots, conducted interviews, obtained b-roll, logged, wrote, produced, supervised the editing and delivered the story on-air. The tuxedo market is shrinking because more weddings are casual, yet several new tuxedo rental companies have snagged millions in venture capital. I pitched a story on this trend to "Business First AM," a nationally syndicated financial news show. I researched and wrote all elements of the story. I produced the entire news package, supervising an apprentice photographer and editor. About Diane M.
I have been a story teller and seeker of truth my entire life. I have been working as a broadcast journalist for more than 15 years. I have been focusing on investigative stories and in-depth pieces for the past several years. I seek out stories that will engage viewers and leave them with something to remember, to add knowledge that can enhance their life in the long term in addition to entertaining them in the short term. I like to spotlight injustices to bring about awareness. These kinds of messages can impact people in a way that motivates them to improve the world. I like to spotlight potential dangers, especially ones involving children, because they are the world's future. My perspective on issues is influenced by my personal life. I am a devoted mother and caring wife. I am a second generation Italian-American from the western suburbs of Chicago. I am a sports fan, bicycle rider, and environmentalist who eschews consumerism but is trapped in the pitfalls of parenthood.

About Jesus D.
I have worked with video from a early age gaining most of my valuable skills through hands on professional experience. I have worked in many different positions in various sizes of production. I'm interested in finding stories that inspire people to look at social and cultural affairs in a different light. I'm confident that once I find a story I'm passionate about it, I will be able to contribute a valuable and substantial perspective on the most relevant and crucial topics. I'm very much interested in economic inequality and the people who do their part to work to resolve it. I also believe in addressing environmental concerns. My passion for art creates great interest in the ways technology is constantly challenging artists and developing artistic techniques. I also am aware of the influences political actions have on any of the preceding interests.

About Ian K.
Hi there. I’m a filmmaker specializing in documentary film of all sizes. My work has appeared on PBS, Time Magazine, CNN, NPR, G4, Billboard Magazine and the Huffington Post. I frequently work with the internationally acclaimed Kartemquin Films (Hoop Dreams, The Interrupters), where I've just finished producing the award-winning documentary feature, "Raising Bertie." Other items of interest: Though I don’t look it, I'm mixed race. My father is Caucasian and my mother is Jamaican/Cuban. While I certainly didn’t get a lot of my mother’s pigmentation, I carry a deep and unique understanding of race and culture. It has helped make me into a compassionate, empathetic filmmaker. Diversity has also carried into my career. Wearing different hats has helped me develop a temperament well suited for travel and the unexpected. I spent over two years living, studying, working and volunteering abroad. I’ve been shipwrecked, lost in the jungle, tear-gassed and nearly stabbed by a 13 year old. I’ve also surfed Brazil, camped in the rainforest, splashed about in a volcano and made friends with a 13 year old. You win some you lose some.
