This was a piece I shot, edited and co-produced in Colombia's Guajira. I produced and filmed an exclusive look at the secretive drug gangs that continue to control Colombia's cocaine trade. Amid heavy fighting between FARC rebels and Colombian soldiers, a military plane goes down in the mountains of Cauca. What happened? Abida Parveen, a Sufi Singer from Pakistan comes to BBC World Service Islamabad Bureau. Pakistan is hosting Afghan migrants for more than two decades now. A whole new generation is born and grown up in these 20 years or more, but most of these young ones are on the streets, with no shelter, food and safety. They are the earning hands of their families and to get bread and butter they beg on the streets. This video features such children and sheds light on their everyday life. Lahore's Historical Red Light area aka Heera Mandi has lost its glory and grandeur it uses to carry in old times when there were Dance and Music in every single story of the old Indian architecture which presents tall buildings with windows (jharokhas). The Music and Dance Pundits used to live here and their lives were totally dedicated to finding the rhythms in life. With the passage of time, it all turned into a tabooed profession in Pakistan, thus banning the art of dance and music in this area. But; there is still one street in the Heera Mandi which even today reminds one of the glorious past. ''Sazindon wali Gali'' ( the street is named after those artisans and musicians who are making musical instruments and teaching and transferring this art through generations, till today. This short featured documentary explains not only the nuances that time brought to this cultural asset but also the details about the instrument making in Pakistan. This is an experiment in using documentary and poetry to reveal the threads that tie us together—as people, as states, and as a nation. For two years, filmmaker Jennifer Crandall has crisscrossed this deep Southern state, inviting people to look into a camera and share a part of themselves through the words of Walt Whitman. The 19th century poet’s “Song of Myself” is a quintessential reflection of our American identities. August 21, 2021 - Rome. Afghans in Rome tell of relatives escaping the Taliban as crowds shout slogans against the Taliban and chide the United States and the allied forces for leaving the country in haste. Shot and edited in 1.5 days. More than 100,000 Syrians have been killed during the country’s ongoing civil war. Losing limbs in the conflict is also common. To help amputees, Syrians with little medical training have learned to make prosthetic limbs in a medical center on the Turkish side of the Syrian border.

About Ian K.
Hi there. I’m a filmmaker specializing in documentary film of all sizes. My work has appeared on PBS, Time Magazine, CNN, NPR, G4, Billboard Magazine and the Huffington Post. I frequently work with the internationally acclaimed Kartemquin Films (Hoop Dreams, The Interrupters), where I've just finished producing the award-winning documentary feature, "Raising Bertie." Other items of interest: Though I don’t look it, I'm mixed race. My father is Caucasian and my mother is Jamaican/Cuban. While I certainly didn’t get a lot of my mother’s pigmentation, I carry a deep and unique understanding of race and culture. It has helped make me into a compassionate, empathetic filmmaker. Diversity has also carried into my career. Wearing different hats has helped me develop a temperament well suited for travel and the unexpected. I spent over two years living, studying, working and volunteering abroad. I’ve been shipwrecked, lost in the jungle, tear-gassed and nearly stabbed by a 13 year old. I’ve also surfed Brazil, camped in the rainforest, splashed about in a volcano and made friends with a 13 year old. You win some you lose some.
