I was born in 1989, in a middle class family in Bangladesh. I studied computer science, before leaving my computer career to study photography at Pathshala South Asian Media Institute from 2010 to 2013, where I was also trained to produce and edit Audio-Visuals. I learnt photography from the masters like Morten Krogvold, Philip Blenkinsop, Max Pam, Asim Rafiqui and Shahidul Alam. I also worked under mentorship of Saiful Huq Omi for a year. My works got published in National Geographic, Sky News UK, Trouw, Marie Claire Italia, Saudi Aramco World, Daily Mail UK, Sunday Times, Birding Asia, SAEVUS among others. I have also worked for The New York Times, Thomson Reuters Foundation, Save The Children, Channel 4, Human Rights Watch, Equal Rights Trust, Embassy of The Kingdom of Netherlands, European Union among others. I am Elizabeth D' Costa, an emerging Bangladeshi born and raised and one of the most exciting young female documentary filmmaker with over 10 years of experience. My first feature documentary “Bangla Surf Girls” got Official selection in the acclaimed HotDocs Film Festival 2020. I am also the fellow of Film Independent’s Documentary Lab 2020 which was sponsored by Global Media Makers and US State Department of Education and Cultural exchange. My film was also selected for the Chicken and Egg 2017 Accelerator Lab among 10 women filmmakers worldwide and successfully pitched in the Deal Makers forum at Hot Docs 2017. I was also selected to attend the IDFA academy in 2017, to hone my craft among 100 filmmakers worldwide. I began my career as a script supervisor with the acclaimed Bangladeshi filmmakers Tareque and Catherine Masud, before earning my MA in Film Studies from the University of Dhaka. I produced/directed television shows and worked in several short films for a range of media outlets including BBC Media Action, Dutch TV NOS, PBSNews- hour, Vice News UK, La Sexta Spanish TV and Bloomberg TV. Also worked as an Assistant Producer on two times Academy Award winner, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s documentary “A Journey of Thousand Miles”. From 2016 to 2017, I worked as a communications advisor for UNDP Bangladesh and in this capacity produced a number of media advocacy stories about women empowerment. He also completed professional training from BBC(UK), BFDC(Dhaka), CENDIT(New Delhi), CEMCA (New Delhi) ,Deutsch Welle Television Training Centre (Berlin), DUPS(Dhaka), NIMC(Dhaka), STOU (Bangkok) and NHK(Tokyo) respectively. In his professional career Mr. Hasan worked in the Dept. of Film & Publication of Bangladesh Govt. and Bangladesh Open University from 1992-2011 as Program Director /Producer .He began his career as a cine-cameraman and has since become a fiction and documentary film-maker. So far made 85 educational TV programs,23 documentaries & 03 fiction and received 14 impressive International awards for film-making. He also created a historic record by winning three times, the most prestigious ‘The National Federation of UNESCO Japan Prize’ for his three educational films as well as the Tokyo Docs (Color of Asia) Award.
