Derek is a freelance video producer based out of Long Beach, CA. His creative journey began in the US Navy as the command photographer for USS Howard (DDG 83) a guided-missile destroyer. While onboard he engaged in documenting such activities as hunting submarines, foreign government training exercises, and volunteer work in underprivileged communities abroad. Beginning in 2017 he began his freelance career back stateside working with local wineries and small businesses in the bay area while completing his bachelor's degree in Radio, TV, and Film from San Jose State University. While in college he won awards for Best Cinematography and Scriptwriting for films he produced for college film festivals. His freelance career started to pick up speed in 2018 when he signed with Silicon Valley Clean Energy as their content creator, from 2020-2021 they completed a first of its kind, 5-hour training course on home electrification, serving as a tool to educate contractors and homeowners about living the all-electric lifestyle. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Film+Digital Media from the University of California, Santa Cruz and an MFA in Film and TV Production at San Diego State University. Steven Gute is a filmmaker who has worn many hats in his now 20-year career. Gute works as a director, producer, writer, cinematographer, journalist and editor, and already has a long resume of credits stretching across a multitude of formats. While his origins lay in narrative films, he eventually worked on a number of documentary films, including: Leonardo Di Caprio's 11th Hour; followed by Radicalized, a portrait of millennial resistance during the Occupy movement; ongoing front-line documentation of protests at Standing Rock and Black Lives Matter; and ultimately, leading a team to the Arctic to film glaciers in decline for HBO’s Ice on Fire. Yulia Tregub Morris is a Los Angeles-based photographer specializing in fine art, lifestyle, personal branding, and reportage photography. She was born in Moscow, Russia. After film school, I started my career in New York City as a Production Assistant and editor. It was exciting to balance my time between production and being on set and post production and editing a project for months at a time. My first producing job was a music video for James Taylor. I moved to Los Angeles and produced music videos and commercials. Soon after, I found myself going to Nashville to produce country music videos for Brooks and Dunn, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Dolly Parton, Martina McBride. I have been nominated for 14 Academy Of Country Music Awards for Producer / Best Music Video and have won the award 5 times. In-between the music videos I would produce commercials for clients such as FORD, Tropicana Juice, Kraft Foods, Varilux, Kia, Jack Daniels and Blue Cross to name a few. ​ Always keeping busy, I moved into Television producing specials and long form DVD's for NBC, ABC and FOX. Some of these include: THE PASSION (FOX - Produced all of the pre tape segments), Olivia Newton John-Live from the Sydney Opera house (a Live 10 camera performance based DVD), WIND IN THE WIRE - Producer for a TV movie for ABC, Rascal Flats, Nothing Like This - (ABC) a behind the scenes look of the band creating a new album. Along with numerous promos for NBC/Universal, Fox and ABC. ​ I've even kept up my editing skills by cutting documentaries for Wings Over Wendy's, Pioneers of the Automobile and several commercials and web series. ​ My philosophy has always been to create a “team” atmosphere with my production crew. Gary Alvarez is an independent filmmaker based in Los Angeles. He graduated from Chapman University's Dodge College of Film with an M.F.A. in Film Production (Directing) in 2012. Since then he has been working professionally as a writer/producer/director. Born the youngest of three sons to working-class Mexican immigrants in Monterey Park, Gary was raised in the barrios of Bell. At 19 he enrolled in UC Berkeley’s Chicano Studies Program and studied abroad at UNAM before graduating in 2002, after which he returned to Los Angeles and taught for the subsequent 10 years. In 2004 Gary embarked on a journey that changed his career path and ultimately his life: he traveled across Mexico from Tijuana to Cozumel, penning a manuscript that was later adapted into a screenplay. Numerous screenwriting workshops and indie film sets later, he decided to transition into a career as writer/director. Gary’s passion is writing and directing narrative films as well as producing documentaries. With the series boom on Netflix and Amazon Prime, he added writing for television as a personal goal. Currently he is developing a new series, writing his next full-length screenplay and producing a feature documentary based on the Bell political corruption scandal of 2010. From 2015 to 2018, Gary taught screenwriting and film production to young filmmakers from underrepresented communities in Los Angeles and Orange Counties through the Latino Film Institute’s Youth Cinema Project. Since February 2016, Gary has been hosting an internet radio music show called Persistence of Sound every Wednesday evening from Espacio 1839 in Boyle Heights. His aim is to document the stories of local creatives through interviews via the show’s guest DJ segment Patched In.
