hello, I am a producer/director/filmmaker/visual storyteller. My heart work is in cultural documentaries, both long and short form. I learned my craft working in public television and then as an independent. I like finding stories that give voice to issues through intimate encounters with everyday people. I like to understand complex stories and focus them into accessible pieces. As people tell me their stories and share their intimate feelings, I understand that these stories can change the world. Angela Jimenez is freelance visual storyteller (still photography, motion, audio and production) based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she works on assignments and on documentary projects for non-profit and editorial clients. A long-time contributor to The New York Times, Angela is a contract photographer with the Getty Images creative department, does work with Minnesota Public Radio and has worked as a photo editor at the Minneapolis Star Tribune. She has published two monographs of her photography: Welcome Home: Building the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival (2009), about the worker community of one of the oldest and largest lesbian-feminist gatherings in the world, and Racing Age (2017), a collection of essays and photographs about competitive masters track & field athletes age 60 and older. Buy her books Her work has been honored by the Magenta Foundation, American Photography, Review Santa Fe and the Communication Arts Photo Annual, supported by grants from The Alexia Foundation student award, The Puffin Foundation and the Aspen Institute/Pluribus Project, and acquired into the permanent collection of the Leslie Lohman Museum for Gay & Lesbian Art. After graduating from Creighton University in Omaha, I moved back to my hometown of Kansas City to join Time Warner Cable SportsChannel, formerly known as Metro Sports. I started as the high school freelance sideline reporter before working full-time in Lincoln, Nebraska, where I spent three and a half years reporting on the Cornhuskers and Omaha Storm Chasers. Wherever the Huskers were, I was close behind. In June 2014, TWC transferred me back to KC where I spent the majority of my time covering the Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and local KC high school athletics. Whether it was reporting about the Kansas City Chiefs’ first playoff victory in two decades or bringing Royals fans inside the clubhouse for a rowdy World Series celebration 29 years in the making, I loved every minute of being a sports reporter. In January 2017, my husband and I moved to St. Paul, Minnesota and I opened my own company, Falco Creative Media, a video production company. The grandson of a Newsweek bureau chief, I started my career in 2012 directing web commercials and independent documentary shorts. He's worked for VICE, PBS NewsHour, Kartemquin, Atlantic Pictures and many other documentary and news crews. He's earned numerous national honors, including multiple Murrow Awards and the Alfred I. duPont Award for his acclaimed film feature documentary Love Them First (www.lovethemfirst.com), now available on Amazon Prime. Garvin started his career as a still photographer working for newspapers on the east coast and freelancing for the New York Times and the AP in New York City.
