Areej Mahmoud is a screenwriter and director living in Lebanon, working on various independent projects and as an entertainment consultant for TV shows including WebTV show “Sadeem”. He started his career in advertising, where he worked for 12 years. In 2015, he completed his first short film “Sparks”, that was screened at the European Independent Film Festival. In 2016 he received a Fulbright Scholarship to complete an MFA in Cinema Directing at Columbia College Chicago. His film “What Remains” was shortlisted at the BAFTA student awards in 2018 and is premiering at the Arabian Sights FilmFestival in WashingtonDC on Oct 2019.

Journalist and researcher on the Lebanese file and the repercussions of regional transformations on the Lebanese and Syrian affairs. I have journalistic and research contributions to many newspapers, websites and study centers. I participated in the preparation of many documentaries and television episodes for many televisions, such as Al-Jazeera, Al-Arabi and BBC Arabic. I participated in many conferences in Lebanon, countries of the Middle East and the Arabian Gulf as a speaker on Lebanese and Syrian affairs and international and regional transformations related to the Middle East and its conflicts. I also work as a consultant in media and political affairs and foreign relations for many Lebanese ministers and parliamentarians through the Recode Consulting Services Foundation. With a group of experts, she contributed to preparing many political papers for emerging political groups in Lebanon. She also participated in preparing electoral projects and plans for candidates for the parliamentary elections in Lebanon in 2018 and 2022. I co-founded the Alternative Press Syndicate gathering in Lebanon after the October 17, 2019 uprising, which is an alternative professional and syndicate framework that defends the rights of journalists. I have been a member of the Assembly’s board of directors since the summer of 2021.

born in beirut in 1977, Khalil lived in the post-war city, spending his weekends watching movies in the old cinemas and on VHS at home, he studied filmmaking and graduated with a Masters degree, then pursued his scriptwriting/directing classes in California. his short film "The WIndow" 2006, won the best film award at the 13th european film festival as well as awards in dubai, osaka, canada and Beirut. His feature docu-fiction "Malaki-Scent of an angel" 2011, was released in cinemas and earned more than 40 awards and nominations across the globe. In 2017 he produced and directed his first fiction feature "NOUR" that was released in cinemas in France in 2019, the film was a huge success and it won more than 55 awards and nominations worldwide. His latest short documentary "The Birds have left Beirut" 2022, touches the life of one of the victims of the Beirut explosion. it was Premiered at the 44th Cairo International Film Festival in November 2022, and it's set to tour many festivals worldwide. Khalil has taught filmmaking in many universities from 2007 until 2019. He is currently preparing his second fiction feature.
