Areej Mahmoud is a screenwriter and director living in Lebanon, working on various independent projects and as an entertainment consultant for TV shows including WebTV show “Sadeem”. I am a photographer, video journalist and writer based in the Middle East. I trained as a press photographer in the UK and cut my teeth working for national publications before moving to Iraqi Kurdistan In 2013. I became picture editor and trainer at Metrography, Iraq's first photo agency, where I mentored photographers and worked to raise the profile of Iraqi photojournalism on the international stage. After leaving Metrography, I covered the rise and fall of the Islamic State in Iraq and the changing fortunes of Iraqi Kurdistan and worked across the Middle East and further afield. I am a regular collaborator with Raw Music International, making short films about music in changing places. With RMI I've produced films from Iraq, Myanmar, Ukraine and Mongolia. My work has been published in the Guardian, Le Monde, Der Spiegel, Neon Magazine, Neue Zurcher Zeitung, Die Zeit and CNN, amongst others. I participated in the preparation of many documentaries and television episodes for many televisions, such as Al-Jazeera, Al-Arabi and BBC Arabic. She also participated in preparing electoral projects and plans for candidates for the parliamentary elections in Lebanon in 2018 and 2022. I co-founded the Alternative Press Syndicate gathering in Lebanon after the October 17, 2019 uprising, which is an alternative professional and syndicate framework that defends the rights of journalists. I have been a member of the Assembly’s board of directors since the summer of 2021.

Born in Lebanon, Cynthia Choucair graduated from ALBA in 1998 and obtained a master degree in Film Directing from Iesav-USJ in 2002. Diego Ibarra Sánchez, Co-founder of MeMo, is an awarded documentary photographer and filmmaker based in Lebanon. Diego assumes a very critical stance regarding the use of images in our own society, defining this historical moment as «lobotomized era of “tourism” on the other’s pain»: in his work he endeavors to ensure that photography is no longer merely a window allowing a view on what happens in the world, but becomes a means to raise questions and generate reflections. Diego Ibarra Sánchez’ gaze goes beyond the frontline, documenting and showing us all that is left behind after the bombings, the killings and the battles: a humanity that has nothing left beyond its life. He strongly believes in documentary photography as a catalyst, shaking consciences and showing the resilience and courage found in forgotten stories, always demonstrating a deep respect toward the story’s protagonist. Diego is very self-motivated, working on his own body of works while publishing many of his stories in numerous newspapers and magazines, such as The New York Times, Der Spiegel, Al Jazeera and Diari ARA among others. In 2006 several grants made it possible for Diego to spend a year in South America to improve his storytelling process. Upon returning to Spain he worked for two years for the Catalan newspaper Avui, while still continuing his own photography projects. In 2009 Diego decided to move to Pakistan where he developed a strong visual body of work focused on Pakistan. At the same time he continued travelling to several other countries including Afghanistan, Bahrain, Libya, Nigeria, and Tanzania. He left Pakistan in 2014 and he is currently based in Lebanon while he keeps traveling and working on his projects around Middle East. He has been award with the Humanitarian award of AECID “Juan Bartolomé”, FINI´s Mexican University Photo Award, Aragón Journalism Association Award, 2 honorable mentions at National Press Photographers Association ( NPPA) and the Spanish Human Right Award with MeMo coop… His work has been exhibited in all around the world and his works has been highlighted during the screening nights of Visa pour L´image several times… among others mentions.
