Sarah Batista is an award – winning journalist, speaker, entrepreneur and filmmaker. Before launching Stories to Inspire, Sarah spent a decade as a reporter and anchor in local television news. In 2013, she left WBTV news in Charlotte after seven years to pursue her dream of documentary filmmaking. As an investigative reporter, Sarah covered a wide range of issues and draws upon that experience in her storytelling. Her four part "Beyond the Border" series filmed in Mexico won her the Large Market Feature Award from the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. For Emmy Award winning journalist, Tamara Banks, the statement, “One Person Can Make a Difference,” is more than just words. Her life experiences, connectibility and sense of humor have made her a sought-after keynote speaker and emcee. Tamara is a freelance journalist, talk show host and documentary filmmaker, focusing on social justice and dedicated to creating transformative social change through excellence in journalism. Her areas of expertise include: social justice and political issues, nationally and internationally, particularly in Sudan, South Sudan and Darfur, and other parts of the globe where there is little or no news coverage about crimes against humanity and genocide. Her documentary short film, “The Long Journey Home,” was accepted into the 2009 Hollywood Film Festival, “HollyShorts.” Her work has been featured on numerous news networks including CNN, ABC News, HDNet's World Report, BBC, Al Jazeera, Al Jazeera America, WB 2 News, FOX News, as well on as a number of radio stations and newspapers over the past 20 years. As a correspondent she has extensive experience in covering a variety of historical issues and stories like the Columbine massacre and the Aurora Movie Theater shootings to the massive floods in Colorado the summer of 2013. She’s also experienced in covering major hot button topics like the gun rights debate and marriage equality. Tamara has also traveled to Uganda to interview child soldiers as well as to Rwanda where she reported on that country’s post genocide challenges and successes. She covered the devastating earthquake in Haiti and embedded with U.S. Army and Iraqi Security forces to report on yet another untold story: U.S. and Coalition Forces training, mentoring and empowering Iraqis before the U.S. pulled out of the war-torn country. Her challenging relationship with her father who was gone most of her childhood helped her develop her independent, tenacious character which lead to her becoming a journalist focused on social justice. Tamara learned that with commitment, hard work and integrity one person can make a difference. She also learned the hard way to not let “perfection be the enemy of the good.” Tamara is an accomplished equestrian, riding since she was four years old. Over the course of her career she’s worked for ESPN, Comcast Sports, Turner Sports and CNN (Atlanta and London). I love the news, television, and serving our communities by digging for the truth and giving people accurate information about events and issues. It’s so, they can make informed decisions. I’m a big fan of the Scripps-Howard motto: “Give light and the people will find their own way.” I’m an Emmy Award winning news anchor/reporter, most recently for WGCL-TV in Atlanta. I love taking viewers through breaking news and field anchoring. As a proven ratings-getter, I’ve been blessed to have worked with fantastic producers and love working together to craft an informative, energetic, rockin’ newscast. On the road, I‘ve covered hurricanes and presidential campaigns; and especially enjoy producing in-depth reports. My career in journalism started at The University of Maryland at College Park. To pay my way through college, I worked as a news aide for The Washington Post, and as a production assistant for WTTG-TV in Washington, D.C. I’ve worked for television stations in Dayton, Cleveland, Raleigh, Houston, Orlando and Washington, D.C. Community involvement is very important to me. I serve on the volunteer board of CAPN Clinics, a charity of medical professionals who provide free care to people who are homeless and families in crisis in Atlanta. I’ve been an after-school tutor for disadvantaged students in D.C., a career day speaker for numerous middle schools and high schools; and an instructor for college students for the NABJ Broadcast Short Course at North Carolina A&T State University. Right now, I also mentor several college journalism students. I’m proud of my work in Houston and in Cleveland, hosting a series of reports on adoption; helping to move kids from foster care, to permanent loving homes.
