EMILIA MELLO (director/producer/photographer) is a Brazilian-American filmmaker raised between West Virginia and São Paulo. She graduated magna cum laude from Columbia University with a degree in Biology and in Latin American Studies. Her first foray into film brought her to black tarp camps of the MST, a communist agrarian reform movement in Brazil. She has since produced for Norwegian reality TV, commercials, and short documentaries as well as for the Oscar nominated documentary film, Wasteland. She is working on her first feature documentary about a peninsula in southeastern Rio state.

Rafael Vilela is an independent Brazilian photographer currently reporting on social injustice and the environmental crisis in his country. He was one of the founders of Midia NINJA, an initiative that today has more than 8 million followers. His photographs are part of São Paulo’s Museum of Modern Art (MAM-SP) permanent collection. In 2014 he was invited by Magnum Photos to be one of the Brazilian photographers in the OffSide Brazil project to report on the World Cup. Rafael was also nominated for World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass in 2013, 2014 and 2015. He has collaborated on international publications such as The Washington Post, The Guardian, VICE, The Intercept and National Geographic. Avener Prado was born in Porto Velho, state of Rondônia, in northern Brazil, in 1991. He began his career as a photo-documentary artist in the Brazilian Amazon at the age of 18. He joined the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo as a photojournalist in 2012. Highlights for some of his work in Brazil: Urban violence in cities; The epidemic of the Zika virus in Pernambuco; The mining disasters in Minas Gerais; The destruction of the Amazon rainforest; The indigenous movement and its cultural diversity. He traveled across countries to tell stories like: Ebola in Sierra Leone; Immigration in the Mediterranean Sea from Italy; Walls that divide US-Mexico borders or neighborhoods, in the mountains of Lima in Peru. In 2019, already as a freelancer, he published reports in the newspapers Le Monde and The Guardian, and other works for Brazilian media. I am a documentary filmmaker based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I graduated in Journalism at Moscow State University and obtained a Master's degree in Documentary filmmaking at Goldsmiths, University of London. I worked as a TV reporter for many years, but for the last decade, I have been focusing on documentary filmmaking. I regularly film in the Amazonian forest and other remote regions of the country. So far, I have worked in 23 of the 26 states of Brazil, as well as in Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, and Ecuador. My first feature documentary film, "On the Edge of Gold", which tells the story of illegal gold miners in the Brazilian Amazon forest, won the critic's prize at the Sao Paulo International Film Festival - Mostra. I typically operate with a lean team of just one assistant or sometimes even alone. This approach significantly reduces costs and allows me to maintain tight control over expenses.
