This documentary in the "Speaking Frankly" series explores whether the Electoral College helps or hurts American democracy. Thrillist's Best Chef of 2018, Reem Assil, isn't just the owner and chef of two amazing Bay Area restaurants (Reem's and Dyafa). She's also a major activist and advocate for workers' rights. I was contracted to interview and film this spot for Thrillist. The Blum Center commissioned me to edit their About US video to increase engagement about its global development and innovations programs. Using a mix of interview footage, b-roll from campus, news clips, and user-generated timelapses I completed the edit in two days. Salvador Gallardo Castro repurposes scrap auto parts to create furniture and art in Tepito, one of Mexico City's oldest and toughest neighborhoods. He taught himself to disassemble discarded iron from cars and trucks and uses the pieces to design furniture. Da Strada is a classical music group that performs on the streets of Mexico City. They—and other musicians—are often targeted as troublemakers and harassed by a police force that consistently overlooks the crimes of corrupt politicians and gangsters. Rob Gibson uses 150-year-old equipment and processes to create authentic tin-type photographs. Each exposure is a delicate balance of time, chemistry, and light. Jan 19, 2010 a coalition of groups under the banner "Bail Out the People" took to the streets to express their anger over the TARP bailouts and Wall Street bonuses. About 75 people stood one block down from the New York Stock Exchange listening to speakers on many subjects from the bank bail out and student Metrocards to teachers unions and Haiti. Pakistan's 73rd Independence Day Celebrations in Virginia Environmental activists marched a giant 100-yard inflatable pipeline around the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday to demand President Obama reject the proposed Keystone XL pipeline that will carry oil extracted from Canadian tar sands. Activists chanted anti-pipeline slogans and carried the inflatible pipeline with the words "Pipeline President or Climate Champion?"
