Hello there! My name is Spencer Bruttig and I am a Washington, D.C. based film producer, DOP and editor. I came out to DC from the SF Bay Area to help start a new documentary and podcast production company (Tegna and Vault Studios) but most recently joined Google as an in-house creative producer working on their marketing team. I am also the Cinematographer on the D.C. based narrative series "Anacostia," as well as the Baltimore Comedy series "Thespian." I am also the DP on the new reality television show "City Boyz DC." With a strong visual eye and a creative mind, I approach storytelling like a puzzle. How can I bring this to life? How can I take a simple idea and give it a voice and a vision? I am an investigative journalist and a researcher with a unique set of expertise regarding Israel and Palestinian Territories. In 2017 I was a member of the Pulitzer Prize winning team for the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) “Panama Papers” project, and in 2020 I led the Israeli research of "Pandora Papers." I also direct, consult and mentor others on research methodology and strategy. Between 2016 to 2020 I worked with Videre Est Credere, a nonprofit documenting human rights violations in dangerous and hard to access parts of the world. I established Videre's Research Department and led teams across the globe. In 2021 I joined the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) to lead their Global Anti-Corruption Consortium (GACC.) My view of research is holistic: I do not think any one aspect of research can truly stand alone. Different components of research (OSINT, SOCINT, HUMINT.) should support each other to produce a better synergistic product. Sometimes a task would require recruiting sources and operating them, while in other circumstances information is gathered from a Facebook feed or public records.
