March 22, 2021 Stephen James Hyde is a cinematographer and an Emmy Award® nominated producer (2018). His work has screened theatrically and appeared on TV networks such as Discovery, Comedy Central, CNN, Aljazeera, and PBS, as well as online magazines including Indian Country Today, Washington Post, Mind Body Green, Seattle Times, GQ, California Magazine, The Nation and elsewhere. Recently he is the Director of Photography on a film commissioned by the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian directed by Tracy Rector (2021). Steve also filmed the Seattle episode of a new doc series with Academy Award® nominated director James Longley (2021) and is DP on a series of branded content spots for Mackie Audio Products, produced by Lucid Visual Media (2020). Hyde has served as an additional cinematographer on numerous other films including the SXSW (2021) best documentary Lily Topples the World by director Jeremey Workman. I’m a documentary filmmaker, producer and photographer currently based in Portland, Oregon. Previously, I was a video producer at The Oregonian and Blue Chalk Media in Portland and before that, I worked on the photo desk at the Chicago Tribune. I received my Master’s in photojournalism from Ohio University, where I also taught several courses. In undergrad, I studied photography and art history in my parents’ hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. My love for photojournalism began early – when I claimed my grandfather’s piles of National Geographic magazines that he hoarded in his trailer in Kentucky after he passed away. As a perpetually curious person, I read endlessly and ask a lot of questions. Whether through films or photographs—my aim is to promote critical thinking, understanding and respect. I'm most drawn to making work that examines how environmental and economic changes affect marginalized or indigenous communities. I'm currently producing films for several NGOs that deal with issues related to women and children’s healthcare and education in India. Michael Hanson is an Oregon-based photographer/director represented by National Geographic Creative. His awards include POYi, Communication Arts, PDN30, America's Top Travel Photographers, and Images of the Year for Portraiture, along with others from National Geographic, PDN, Banff, Rangefinder, FYI Folio, American Advertising Federation. Michael's photography career began after playing Minor League Baseball for the Atlanta Braves. His work has taken him to over 25 countries around the world. He completed his first book, a project documenting urban farming in America, titled Breaking Through Concrete in 2010 and directed and DP'd his first documentary film, Who Owns Water, on a river in his native South. In 2018, he DP'd and walked across Costa Rica for an upcoming documentary film. He is a frequent contributor to the New York Times and Outside Magazine. My name is Kevin Balmer, aka Diggable Monkey. I've been in the freelance business of video production for the past 13 years and I've witnessed the vast evolution of the video media landscape in that time. I've done mostly short story documentaries with a good dose of commercial work. My company brand is heavily associated with the arts and design arena, with a bit of subscription-based online course development. The last few projects I've completed were with the Oregon Historical Society, the Regional Arts and Culture Council, and the NW Blacksmiths Association. I've also done some storytelling video work with commercial developers and architectural firms here in Portland. I can execute on all levels of the business from negotiating and securing the work to the production and delivery of the end product. I would eventually like to lead a production team and make inspirational stories to help save the planet. I run a small documentary/commercial production shop outside Portland, OR. Shooting with FX6, FS7, A7SII, Mavic Pro 3 and DJI Ronins, I've shot and edited videos for non-profits and corporate clients in locations from Portland, OR to rural Georgia to Indonesia. I work solo, with my brother, and larger crews depending on the client and scope. I am a FAA Part 107 certified drone pilot and have flown and shot footage in urban to wilderness settings. I speak Spanish and am comfortable in challenging social and/or physical environments with alpine mountaineering skills, expedition experience, and months spent navigating in the wilderness. Originally from the Midwest, I currently live in Portland, Oregon with my wife, Melissa, and our two dogs and cat. I received my MFA in Film and Television Production from the USC School of Cinematic Arts and a BA in Film Studies from the University of Michigan. My film and video work has appeared in film festivals and been featured online at PBS, NPR, Comedy Central, Bust, Interview Magazine, GQ, the White House blog, Nylon, The Huffington Post, Jezebel and Sheryl Sandberg's Lean In blog. My photography has been featured online at National Geographic, Slate, Interview Magazine and Civil Eats and in print in National Geographic's hardcover book Feeding America: Stories of Hunger and Hope, Growing Oregon magazine, Venus Magazine, and various newspapers. Other previous film/video related experience includes casting assistant/extras casting for the Oscar-nominated film Nebraska, production assistant on music videos for Outkast and Beck, and assistant to screenwriter/producer Kirsten (Kiwi) Smith (Legally Blonde, 10 Things I Hate About You). I'm currently directing a documentary on the Rose City Riveters, the supporters group for the Portland Thorns of the National Women's Soccer League. Born in Savannah, GA, Brock Scott is an artist, photographer and filmmaker living in Seattle, WA. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Atlanta College of Art in 2009, Brock worked in the film industry on television and in major motion pictures such as The Walking Dead, Fast and Furious, and The Hunger Games. His experience in the film industry informed him of state-of-the-art techniques and knowledge that have been fundamental to his development as a filmmaker. In 2015, Brock became an independent documentary filmmaker, enjoying successful collaborations with BBC, Netflix, New Georgia Project, Adult Swim, and CDC. His film, Boxcar Fair, won the AIAP International Motion Award and was an Official Selection of the SXSW film festival. Scott is currently the founder of On the Grid Creative (OTGC), a Seattle based creative agency producing award-winning video productions focused on storytelling and social impact. During the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021, Brock has worked with CDC and Living Walls to create a series of short documentaries informing people in Georgia about the importance of vaccination. Brock was also part of a public health campaign with Southern Fried Queer Pride promoting awareness regarding LGBTQ+ health and HIV prevention. He was the director of a 2020 film campaign with New Georgia Project to encourage voter turnout. In addition to filmmaking, music is one of Brock’s biggest influences. He is the lead singer and songwriter of the internationally touring act Little Tybee, which has produced four full-length albums of original music. With Little Tybee, Brock has toured in North America, Central America and Europe. Because of Scott’s musical experience, his visual storytelling style is rhythmic, blending the empathetic power of art and music with the real-life stories of people making a difference.

Yeong-Ung Yang is a NY Emmy® Award-winning photographer and filmmaker, who formerly worked for Newsday as a staff multimedia producer. He produces visual news reports as well as long-form documentaries. Daily assignments have given him access to a wide range of subjects—from a longtime underboss of the Colombo crime family was released from prison at the age of 102, Trump Impersonators with different political views performing in the Trump era. Going back to the subjects pivoting off answers and engaging them on his own makes for a higher level of insight. He also works with other reporters and the editors from the newsroom to further expand news coverage. Yeong-Ung helps conceptualize and visualize investigative contents such as "Testing the Divide,” a recent Newsday's documentary film an undercover investigation revealing evidence of unequal treatment by real estate agents. As a cinematographer, he applied various visual skillsets ranging from setting up lighting and audio for studio interviews, portraits to aerial drone video. The piece won the Peabody Award in June, 2020. Originally from Seoul, South Korea, Yeong-Ung has been focusing on documenting underreported stories that lay beneath the front pages. Works include a 7-month long video coverage of the Kurds in Iraq (2006), Asian immigrants riding casino buses as a lifeline(2013), and “Unvarnished,” a front-page New York Times series (May 2015), year-long in-depth investigation into the exploitation of nail manicurists who work primarily in Korean-owned salons. Series won Pulitzer Finalist in Local Reporting (Apr. 2016). Yeong-Ung co-directed a Love, mommy, a 30-minute PBS documentary film about a formerly incarcerated woman who is battling custody of her daughter(2017).
