I am a multi-media journalist with experience of over a decade in television and digital (video and audio) news mediums. From weathering tough terrain for crisis reportage to getting voices that matter and being one of the few journalists to cover the biggest international story in early 2019 (the Sri Lanka terror attack) — I go wherever the story takes me. I was one of the few journalists in South Asia to have received a fellowship with MSF (Reporters Without Borders) in 2023 to cover the health impact of sexual and gender-based violence. I am passionate about everything that comes with the process of unraveling real issues, especially ones with gender narratives. Kavita Bahl is a multiple award winning documentary filmmaker based in Mumbai, India. She has thrice received the National Film Award for her feature length documentaries - Cotton for my shroud(2011), Candles in the wind (2013)& I cannot give you my Forest (2014). She specialises in production of non-fiction content, since last 25 years. Her films are about gender issues, environment, Aboriginal communities, education & culture of the Indian subcontinent. She started as a journalist and worked with 'India Express' for 7 years. As a journalist who travelled the length and breath of her country digging people's narratives from the margins and mainstreaming them finally found her niche in the documentary. Hard-hitting yet poignant, her films are portraits of an India which lives on the margins. Kavita is a producer, Director, cinematographer, script/content writer, voice artist & a photographer. She is bilingual and has an equally good command over English & Hindi. She can write & narrate in both the languages. She did her Masters in English Literature from Delhi University before training in journalism. She has produced films in the toughest terrains in India : Kashmir & north-east India.
